3 Rules I Follow When Choosing Books for My Twin Toddlers

Published by momoftwins at 8:18 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Tim & AnnetteWhen my twins were infants, they didn’t care what I read to them — they just enjoyed listening to the sound of my voice. But now that they’re toddlers, they enjoy certain types of books. So I have to make a conscious effort to select books that are appropriate for their age and level of development.  Listed below are three simple rules I follow when I’m selecting books for my twins.

I Choose Books That Are Durable. My twins are not the gentlest toddlers around, so the books I choose must be able to withstand some serious thumps and bumps. Every once in a while I’ll buy a paperback book for my children, but I generally stick with board and vinyl books as they are sturdy enough to survive being handled by two toddlers.

I Select Books That Display Colorful Illustrations.Vivid illustrations in books can bring a story to life. My twins love listening to the words of a story, but they enjoy pointing and looking a the pictures even more.

I Choose Books that Have Simple Plots. Toddlers have short attention spans and expecting them to sit through stories that are too long can be a bit unrealistic. So I select books with simple words and straightforward storylines that my twins can easily understand. I often use the recommendations listed on book covers to determine the appropriateness of the books.

As long as I follow these three simple rules, choosing books for my twin toddlers is always a breeze.
